Kamini Soobben

Having completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dramatic Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, majoring in Design,Theatre Production and Arts Manage-ment, Kamini worked at the Pieter Toerien Theatre at Montecasino in South Africa as well as the Joburg Theatre, State Theatre, Brooklyn Theatre and the Market Theatre as a lighting designer/technician. She was part of the Stage management and Technical
team for the RAPS Festival for four years (2011 - 2014) and was the Head Technician for 2015. She spent three years as the technical manager for the Shakespeare School’s Festival in Johannesburg (2013 - 2015). Kamini has taken part in many dance festivals from a technical aspect as well as worked with high schools in assisting with the staging of their major productions. She has worked as assistant lighting designer on ‘Don Quixote’ the ballet (SABT, 2013), as well as Andrew Lloyd Weber’s ‘Starlight Express’(Janice Honeyman, 2013), as assistant costume designer for Alan Menken’s ‘Sister Act’ (Janice Honeyman, 2015) and as the set and lighting assistant for the production of ‘Saturday Night Fever’ (Greg Homann, 2016). In France, Kamini has toured as a technician with ‘Influences of a closet chant’, (Albert Ibokwe Khoza, 2016) at le 104 in Paris and La Ferme du Buisson in Noisiel. In 2017 she worked as a lighting designer and operator for the production of ‘La plus forte’ at the Theatre de l’ENS, Paris and the production of ‘Cornucopia’ at the Theatre de Verre, Paris. She has recently joined the theatre company ‘Summertide’ as their resident lighting designer.
